The Late Debate TV recording happens today

As you have read previously on my blog, I am to appear on The Late Debate, a One Gospel program on DSTV channel 331, as a panellist. It was first on for 31 October 2010, but then it was cancelled, then it was re-scheduled for this coming Saturday, 27 November 2010.

But, as you know, or at least as I am learning right now, things can change rapidly in the television world. The fact is, another TV show’s recording for today (25 November 2010) had been cancelled, and as a result, the recording of The Late Debate will happen this afternoon at 17:00. The panellists must be there at 16:00 for make-up and preliminaries.

I will keep you informed, so that those that do have DSTV, with the One Gospel channel, could watch the show when it is aired.

Please pray that this specific episode, “Worldviews at War,” will be of help to Christian students that will leave for university for the first time in February next year, and also for the parents of those students. Of course, it could also be of help to any other Christian. What triggered this specific episode can be read about at my post, “The statistics driven church.”

The Late Debate TV recording is back on! for now…

studioAs some of you have read in some of my previous posts, I was scheduled as a panellist on The Late Debate, a One Gospel program on DSTV channel 331. The recording was to be done on 31 October, but unfortunately had to be cancelled.

Well, the good news is that the recording has been rescheduled provisionally for 27 November 2010. That means, just 16 days to the recording date! I was really looking forward to it the last time. I am glad it has been rescheduled.

Please pray that everything will go well and that the scheduled recording would actually take place.

The statistics driven church

I was supposed to be a panellist on the recording of a Christian television show last week Saturday on the subject of Worldviews at War.

SH102851What sparked this show was a letter/article that Dr. Peter Hammond of Africa Christian Action presumably sent to the One Gospel channel (331 on DSTV), which airs The Late Debate.

Unfortunately, I do not know which study's statistics Dr. Hammond refers to in the articles that set the creation of this episode of the show in motion, so I cannot comment on what he specifically refers to. The statistics he mentions state that 75% of university students, that come from Christian homes, are eventually lost to the church in university, and that the liberal, humanistic academia are to blame. You can read these articles here and here.

I have a lot of respect for Dr. Hammond. He has stood up for the truth when it was totally uncool to do so. He has been in dangerous situations for the gospel in countries such as Sudan, while most of us had a good night's sleep. So, this blog post is not aimed at him or his organization, but rather at a broader problem in the church.

The Late Debate Recording cancelled!

In my previous post I wrote about how the opportunity arose to appear as a panellist on The Late Debate, which airs on the One Gospel channel, 331, on DSTV.

Well, unfortunately the recording of the show was cancelled today because the producer and the presenter are sick. The producer was there earlier since she also produces the show that was recorded before ours, but by the time ours came around, she went home and someone else was ready to stand in.

However, we were all sitting and had our microphones clipped to our clothes, when the presenter walked in. He just sat down without speaking at all. While they attached his microphone, he put his head on his arms on the table in front of him. A short while thereafter he walked out. The we were informed that the presenter was sick and that the recording would be cancelled. I suppose this is how it goes in the TV business when important people are sick.

We will be called back for a later recording session. We'll wait and see!

I will be on the The Late Debate TV programme

latedebateA while ago, I received an email from Africa Christian Action (ACA), to find out if I didn’t know about someone that would be willing to appear on The Late Debate television program on DSTV channel 331, One Gospel, which is aired at 21:00 on Wednesday nights.

The email was sent to me and a co-worker (let’s call him Greg) at the Biblical Christian Network. BCN is a prolife organization, and we organize annual Biblical worldview seminars. Well, since it was sent to Greg too, I thought that Greg would handle it, since I couldn’t think of someone off-hand, and I was convinced that Greg would know someone. Well, it seems Greg thought exactly the same! Isn’t that funny? Human nature!

Anyway, I was called by ACA today and was asked up front if I wouldn’t like to represent BCN/ACA on The Late Debate.
